Playing With Paper and Paint- Mixed Media Art

I went to one of my favorite places yesterday, The Little Blue House. It's a fun place full of neat, creative ladies and any time I get a chance to go and take a class or hang out there, I go! This is my latest creation.
I have wanted to play with mixed media forever, this class was a chance to jump in and get my feet wet.
It was so much fun, layering paper and paints and stamps. It's the kind of art where you just go for it, no way you can mess up.We choose our own words to put on it. These words speak about where I am in my life right now.
I love all the little bits and pieces. And I have the perfect place for this in my guest room.
I got home and I couldn't quit thinking about it so I got out a bunch of stamps and a bunch of stuff you just have around the house and started creating.
And here is what I came up with. My sister in law was just in town and she calls my daughter a songbird, I guess I had songbird on the mind.
My husband, who is my biggest supporter, says "you need to sell these". That is sweet, means alot to me.
Love her fat little singing cheeks! How many of these can I have in my house? I told the girls in class that I was going to go home and paint the bathroom wall like this. Wouldn't that be fun to look at? Anyway, yet another thing I'm hooked on! Do you love to play? If so you will love this! Oh, I should have mentioned, the songbird one is a pizza box!

A little peek of the cabinets

Well it's official. I am probably one of the worst bloggers ever! Guess how many pictures I took during this whole process... uh zero, zilch, nada! I did however take a few after.
I'm loving them, I should have done this a long time ago! I don't want to show you everything because this is just the beginning.
Next this dinosaur has to go. We tried to take it out so we could paint below it but we couldn't get it out. Bad pic, the cabinets don't look pink at all.
And this old faithful has to go too, she served our family well for almost 23 years. It will be nice to have a stainless steal one that matches the dishwasher and fridge.
And although stainless is desired for the appliances I am ready for something different for a sink. I'll be getting a big old farm sink. And of course with all these changes I can't keep the same counter tops. Well be getting butcher block from Ikea. I can't wait to see it. I LOVE the wood with the white cabinets. The one thing I am not sure about is my backsplash. I had planned on something white but saw this at Home Depot and I am considering it.
The fabric is for the kitchen curtains. What do you think? I'm waiting until I see the tile with the butcher block, not sure I am going to like it together. Anyway, so much more to do. You know how it is one thing leads to another and another and another. I call is the decorating monster, like the blob, it just keeps growing and growing, . I'll share more about the cabinets and what we did and all of that as time goes on. They look great, they should have always been this way!

Chair reupholstery

Do you work on more than one project at a time? I do, but usually not 2 big projects at once. However, we're on a mission. My sister in law arrives in less than 12 hours and will be here for one week, we gotta make hay while the sun shines, you know what I mean??? I have been doing some prework so when she gets here we can shoot out of the gate!

This chair is getting a little facelift, it looks funny without the legs. I always forget to take a picture before I get started. :)
Have you always wondered what your furniture looks like under the fabric? My handy work, I removed a bajillion staples!!!
It only took 3 little tools, really I didn't use the scissors much so I guess it took 2. And no, that isn't the bajillion staples, of course I thru those away BEFORE I took the picture! Sigh, one day I will learn to take pics as I go. Keep checking back to see our killer skillz!
